The Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness) Meets with the ICRC and Discusses Critical Issues

On Tuesday 23rd April, the Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness) met with the Head of ICRC Delegation in Lebanon Ms. Simone Aeschlimann and discussed pressing critical issues and the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The visiting team included the Director of Public Relations and Media, Mr. Muhammad Al-Shouli, the human rights researcher Mr. Hassan Al-Sayyida, and the legal researcher Ms. Eman Sabaa Ayoun.

On behalf of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the head of the delegation Ms. Simone Aeschliman, the communications officer Ms. Sally Aoun, and the political advisor Mr. Shawqi Amin Al-Din.

The topics discussed included:

(1)    The situation of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons since the beginning of war

(2)    Forced disappearance of civilians and protected personnel from Gaza

(3)    Torture upon detention and ill and humiliating treatment of prisoners

(4)    Captivity of corpses following the death of detainees

The association engaged with the ICRC in a technical dialogue on these pressing issues, the role of the ICRC in this regard, and raised recommendations to uphold and preserve the basic rights of prisoners and forcibly disappeared.
